Casual Alumni Night at Bertucci's Pizzeria & Restaurant Melville, Long Island Thursday, 24 October 2002 Special Guest: VADM John Ryan, USN (Ret.)   The Long Island Chapter greeted VADM John Ryan as President of the Maritime College at our favorite watering hole on 24 October. Admiral Ryan shared his opinions of the school and the Regiment, and his visions for the future. Deirdre Whitman (Vice President of Enrollment Management and Campus Life) explained the Cadet Appointment Program to the gathered Alumni and the importance of getting the word out about CAP to New York State Legislators in the next month. It was an informative and enjoyable evening for all.

HOMECOMING 2002 Saturday, 21 September 2002 at the Maritime College L.I. Chapter Alumnus Arne Bocksel '36 has loaned some of his World War II memorabilia to the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler. The Board of the Maritime Industry Museum has voted to install a new display case in the Hall of Honor containing some of the items that Arne Bocksel has of his experiences as a Japanese prisoner of war. Arne is a decorated WW II veteran who endured over three years of barbaric treatment by the Japanese as a POW. His experiences are eloquently told in his book entitled Rice, Men and Barbed Wire. Dedication of this exhibit took place in the Fort on Saturday morning.

Alumni Family Picnic 2002 at the L.I. Maritime Museum Saturday, 17 August 2002 West Sayville, Long Island A premier summer afternoon was the setting for the L.I. Chapter's Family Picnic on Saturday, 17 August at the Long Island Maritime Museum. Nearly 30 Alumni and their families enjoyed the museum tours, outside exhibits, and typical barbecue fare along the south shore of Long Island.
