- “CLASS OF
1960 GIFT”
THE 50th ANNIVERSARY CLASS GIFT - The
1960 Class Gift is the best way to show our appreciation to the Maritime College. Each class member's involvement makes a difference for the future of the
college. It sends a message, that as a class we believe in its mission and
the contributions that its graduates make to society. Given the current
economic environment, we understand that it may be difficult to give. However,
this is our best chance to help ensure the college's special mission and
viability through our participation in the scholarship program or other gifts. Please
know that every gift makes a difference no matter the amount and is greatly
appreciated. Since 1874 Alumni have presented a monetary gift and one of
the largest gifts was made by the Class of 1956 in the amount of $404,375.
Thorough this long tradition of Class Gifts, alumni have without exception
announced their class gift at Homecoming on their 50th Anniversary.
The 1960 Class Gift Advisory Committee
decided to establish two (2) organizations available as repositories to
administer the class of 1960's gift, namely, the Fort Schuyler Maritime Alumni
Association (FSMAA) and the SUNY Maritime College (SUNYMC). Both are “not-for-profit”
repositories and the management of the gifts are governed by State and
Federal laws. Each of the two (2) repositories were presented with identical
legal Memoranda of Understandings formally establishing the “Class of 1960
Scholarship Endowment Fund”, however, only the FSMAA has signed the Class MOU.
The College has, since December, 1999, not signed the Class MOU giving no
reason. Our classmate Ray Hayden has been asked to negotiate the MOU with the
College, however, to date, the College has not signed the traditional Class
Gift MOU our Class Advisory Gift Committee. Notwithstanding, we are told by the
College that you can still make a Class Gift Donation to the College; but without
benefit of a signed agreement with the Class stipulating limitations on its use
for scholarships, the Class Gift Advisory Committee, will not have any
involvement with its administration or oversight or decisions on its use or
that the individual gifts as the donor intended.
Our goal is to reach 100 percent
participation from the Class of 1960, regardless of the amount that you give or
the repository you choose. Your participation is what counts. All donations are
tax deductable.
- For
Class Gift donations to be administered by the Alumni Association under
