The weekend was a huge success and lots of laughs, memories and good times were shared by
all. The Bad Bad Bad Blues band started out Friday evening at the TIV and guess what, they
were much better than anyone had remembered!! As a matter of fact, the were OUTDSTANDING and
we expect to see them at a smoky bar somewhere down in Soho or Chelsea playing with the
greats some day. Thanks Bob, Larry, Glen and Rich for the wonderful performance. Oh and
Crilley, we were totally impressed by your cartwheel!!
The day's events at the Dome were attended by a few class of 82er's but I suspect that
everyone was saving their energy for the big boat bash being held Saturday Evening. Quite a
few of our classmates stayed at the world famous five star hotel, The Seaport Suites (really,
it was just like the Ritz Carlton!!...okay, okay, maybe not quite the Ritz...what do you
expect for $129/night in Manhattan???)
Then it was on to the Cayah Amanda for our evening cruise which was attended by 113
classmates and spouses (68 class of 82er's to be exact). The ship was beautiful, the food
was decent, the weather was awesome & the booze was flowing freely....what more could one
ask? Thanks to Lou Guzzo, we had a private show by one of the New York fire boats. No one
fell overboard, no one missed the boat (must have been that Maritime training!), and
surprisingly enough, no one tried to mutiny the captain and crew to head for some far away
distant land.
After the cruise ended, as usual, the party did not. A huge contingent headed downtown to
the lovely Paris Cafe because three and a half hours just isn't enough to catch up with old
friends. The crowd did thin a bit as we approached closing time (that would be 0400 for us
nautical folks) and I think we were eventually kicked out around 4:30.
Sunday a crew of about 25 went to Brunch at the seaport and continued the fun (good thing
they don't serve alcohol in the city till after noon on a Sunday or we could have been in
trouble..)
An interesting observation that was made by so many of the spouses as well as the crew on
board the ship & those people that we ran in to along the way is how amazing it seemed to
them that a good amount of us had probably not seen or spoken to each other in 20 years. Its
difficult to explain to those that haven't been through the Maritime experience the type of
camaraderie and bonds that are formed when going through such a unique college....
Fair winds and calm seas my friends....
